The Q3 2026 business results show that Vietcombank , VietinBank, MSB, and TPBank continued to grow profits, mainly driven by core operations. However, increased capital costs and credit risk provisions also put pressure on the business performance of some banks.
Specifically, Vietcombank recorded pre-tax profit of VND 11,200 billion in the third quarter, almost unchanged compared to the same period last year. Cumulative pre-tax profit up to the end of September reached VND 40,440 billion, an increase of 22%.
The main driver of growth came from net interest income, which increased by 35% to nearly VND 57,200 billion. Foreign exchange trading brought in over VND 6,400 billion, while profits from other activities reached over VND 5,900 billion. Total operating income therefore reached nearly VND 73,000 billion, an increase of 37%.
However, a sharp increase in credit risk provisions narrowed profit growth. Cumulatively, by the end of September, these expenses reached nearly VND 9,200 billion, almost four times higher than the same period last year. In the third quarter alone, the bank set aside nearly VND 6,200 billion, eight times higher than the same period last year, resulting in virtually no profit growth for the quarter.
By the end of September, Vietcombank’s total assets reached approximately VND 2.68 trillion, an increase of nearly 10% compared to the beginning of the year; outstanding loans exceeded VND 1.81 trillion, an increase of 8.5%. The non-performing loan ratio increased from 0.58% to 0.71%.
At VietinBank , pre-tax profit in the third quarter reached VND 13,689 billion, an increase of 29%; after- tax profit reached VND 10,871 billion, an increase of 27.7%.
During the quarter, net interest income increased by 27%, to over VND 21,800 billion. Income from services increased by nearly 57%, reaching VND 2,487 billion; profit from foreign exchange trading increased by 114%, to VND 1,170 billion.
By the end of September, VietinBank had achieved nearly VND 39,557 billion in pre-tax profit, an increase of nearly 34%. Net interest income reached VND 61,931 billion, an increase of 27.7%. However, interest expense on deposits also increased by 47.8%, to VND 68,889 billion.
The bank’s total assets at the end of September reached over 2.95 trillion VND; outstanding loans exceeded 2.14 trillion VND, and customer deposits reached 1.94 trillion VND. Total non-performing loans amounted to 25,781 billion VND, with a non-performing loan coverage ratio of approximately 160%.

The private banking sector also saw strong growth. MSB recorded pre-tax profit of VND 2,017 billion in the quarter, up 27.1%; and after- tax profit of VND 1,649 billion, up 29.4%.
Cumulative pre-tax profit up to the end of September reached VND 5,440 billion, an increase of 14.3%. Net interest income increased by 21.7%, to VND 9,621 billion, while income from services and foreign exchange trading decreased by 23.7% and 72.8% respectively.
