XRP just posted a 22% weekly rally, yet traders have chased the $5 target for five years without ever touching it. Three conditions must align at once, and right now, not a single one is fully in place.

Reaching $5 would mean a 216% increase for XRP (CRYPTO:XRP), which trades at $1.58 after a 22% weekly rally. With roughly 60.3 billion XRP in circulation, the asset’s market value is around $99 billion, so a price of $5 would bring it closer to a $300 billion valuation, nearly matching Ethereum’s current $336 billion and about a fifth of Bitcoin’s $1.73 trillion market cap.
Traders have speculated about XRP reaching $5 since 2021, but it has never hit this mark. Its highest price to date is $3.65 from July 2025, and the coin has fallen about 16% in 2026 and 46% over the past year. This begs the question: what needs to change for the XRP price to reach $5? Here are three crucial factors that must align.
Traders Move $6.4 Billion of XRP a Day, and None of It Leaves Circulation
The first crucial condition is one that many price predictions overlook. In the past 24 hours, traders moved $6.4 billion worth of XRP. While this volume can temporarily lift prices, it often unwinds quickly as buyers eventually sell their holdings back into the market.
What XRP needs is real usage—demand that takes the coins out of circulation. For instance, when XRP is locked as collateral or used by payment companies to facilitate transactions between different currencies, it becomes unavailable for trading. This means future buyers have fewer coins available, which can push the price up further.
There are a few key use cases that could drive this demand. Ripple’s payment services utilize XRP for currency exchange, tokenized markets could use XRP as collateral, Stripe has integrated XRP into its payments solutions, and stablecoins on the XRP Ledger incur fees in XRP whenever they are transacted.
Despite these possibilities, current usage remains far below what’s needed to support a $300 billion valuation. Ripple’s own stablecoin, RLUSD, has only reached $2.4 billion in circulation, with about $1.4 billion of that operating on the Ethereum network rather than on the XRP Ledger. Additionally, XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs) currently hold about 1.7% of the total supply, compared to 6.4% for Bitcoin’s funds.
Ripple Unlocks a Billion XRP From Escrow on the First of Every Month
Another factor to consider is XRP’s supply dynamics. Unlike Bitcoin, which has a fixed supply and a set release schedule, XRP does not operate this way. Ripple holds about 31.3 billion XRP in escrow accounts and releases up to a billion XRP each month. On September 1, 2026, Ripple released exactly that amount through transfers of 500 million, 400 million, and 100…
