REDDING, Calif. — Redding Finance Director Greg Robinett is transitioning out of his appointed role but will continue serving the community as the city’s elected treasurer.
Robinett will step down from his appointed position Sept. 11 but will continue serving as the city’s elected treasurer through the remainder of his term.
Robinett’s term as city treasurer runs through December 2028. The elected position is separate from his role as finance director.
Robinett joined the city of Redding in 2014 and worked as an accountant, senior accountant and finance officer before being appointed finance director in 2023. In that role, he has overseen the city’s financial operations, including its budget, financial planning and long-term fiscal strategy.
“I want to thank Greg for his service to the City and for the contributions he has made during his time as Finance Director,” said Interim City Manager Michael Webb. “We appreciate his efforts on behalf of the organization and the community, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
Robinett shared insight on what has led to the decision.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for me, but a great opportunity has come up for my family that I can’t turn down,” Robinett said. “I am extremely grateful to my staff, City leadership, and the Redding community for the opportunity to serve as Finance Director. It has been a privilege to work alongside so many dedicated people, and I look forward to continuing to serve the community in my role as City Treasurer.”
To help ensure a smooth transition, Robinett said he will stay in his current role until Sept. 11, 2026. The City of Redding is in the process of recruiting a new Finance Director and will announce interim leadership arrangements as those plans become official.
As city treasurer, Robinett oversees the investment of city funds under state law and City Council policy, along with other responsibilities related to managing city finances.
Robinett’s departure adds to a period of leadership uncertainty in Redding, where the city is already operating with an interim city manager following the unexpected death of William Tarbox, as well as interim police and fire chiefs after the retirements of Brian Barner and Jerrod Vanlandingham.
