FTSE 100 on the up as airline stocks surge higher

The FTSE 100 index rose again as airline stocks surged higher.

British Airways owner IAG led the way climbing 11% in the morning while the index jumped 71 to 6,412.

says it will soon be able to supply two billion doses of a potential coronavirus vaccine. Its CEO says it’s already started to make the vaccine ahead of the trial results.

The spat between billionaires Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos has ramped up a notch after Amazon refused to allow the Tesla owner to self-publish a book. Musk tweeted that Amazon should be broken up.

Luxury carmaker Bentley is set to cut 1,000 jobs in another blow to the UK’s car industry. The Volkswagen-owned business has seen production halted by the coronavirus outbreak.

Stobart Group has raised £100mln from a placing to help it re-focus on Southend Airport. The group lost £158mln in the year just ended including a big write-down on the failed airline Connect.

Premier Oil () has agreed revised payment terms for its North Sea acquisitions and agreed a truce with its dissenting hedge fund investor. Premier has now agreed in principle to pay cash of just US$210mln on completion, funded with equity.

C4X Discovery () chief executive, Clive Dix has been appointed as a member and deputy chair of the steering board of the UK Vaccine Taskforce. The taskforce will lead UK efforts to find and manufacture a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
