Known for his big heart and boldness, Sam Rothberg was a passionate supporter of the State of Israel and emerged as an ideal leader for Israel Bonds at a critical moment in its early history.
His commitment began in 1950 when he attended the historic King David Conference, where Ben-Gurion introduced the idea of Israel Bonds. A year later, in 1951, he was personally chosen by Golda Meir to head Israel Bonds’ lay leadership alongside Henry Montor, its first CEO.
Rothberg went on to provide decades of dedicated leadership until his death in 2007 at age 96, helping to shape the organization’s mission and to strengthen Israel’s economic foundation.
