Ryan Fox secured his first major championship and a newly-increased prize pot by winning the Open Championship.
Fox claimed his British Open win with a birdie on the 72nd hole at Royal Birkdale.
That birdie allowed Fox to beat out Cameron Young for the solo lead and secure the largest 36-hole comeback victory in men’s major history, per The Athletic’s Justin Ray.
Fox tied a men’s major record with a score of 62 in Saturday’s third round to climb into contention.
He finished with a 10-under 270 to take home the winner’s prize purse of $3.2 million.
That marks a $100,000 increase over the purse Scottie Scheffler took home for winning the Open Championship in 2025.
It’s also a jump from what Fox earned following his two previous PGA Tour wins.
He claimed $720,000 for winning the Myrtle Beach Classic in May 2025, then took home $1.76 million after winning the RBC Canadian Open in June 2025.
Fox has previously received a total of $9.27 million in official earnings from the PGA Tour.
The 39-year-old from New Zealand has earned 14.9 million euro (around $17 million) on the DP World Tour.
