Banks are testing the waters for a return to financial advice and wealth management – eight years after the Hayne royal commission dismantled the scandal-plagued sector – arguing that the crackdown may have gone too far.
However, any plan to again offer these financial services is set to run up against sceptical institutional investors, who can recall the events of 2018 that left the industry’s reputation in tatters.
