Nicholas Morizio, a top Connecticut commercial real estate broker, has donated $1 million to the University of Connecticut’s real estate program to establish student scholarships, the university announced.
The gift is the largest individual donation in the program’s history, according to UConn.
Morizio, a 1974 UConn graduate and president of Colliers International’s Connecticut and Western Massachusetts offices, has been involved in commercial property transactions across Connecticut, including office and industrial deals.
The scholarship fund will support students in UConn’s real estate program, which the university said graduates about 60 majors and minors annually.
Morizio said his own experience paying for college influenced the donation. According to UConn, he worked summers to help cover tuition and other expenses while attending school.
The gift comes as the UConn Foundation is conducting a broader fundraising campaign with a $1.5 billion goal.
