Actor Jeremy Allen White may have mastered the high-stakes kitchen in “The Bear” and channeled the grit of Bruce Springsteen for his latest film, “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” but his personal decompression method is more suburban dream than rock ‘n’ roll.

On a recent episode of the “Smartless” podcast with hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, White confessed to a secret obsession: He is a chronic real estate “fantasizer.”

White said he spends much of his downtime scrolling through the Realtor.com app, often sending listings to friends who are growing tired of his digital window shopping.

Don’t Miss:

“I’m obsessed with reality real estate shows, and I’m, like, always on [the] Realtor app,” White said. “I don’t buy anything, but I like to fantasize. I send listings to friends, and they’re like, ‘Just buy it then!'”

The actor’s habit isn’t just about finding a new residence. It’s about the “what if.” He said that whenever he visits a new town — whether for work or on a road trip — he begins looking at local listings, imagining a completely different life in that city or town.

During a cross-country road trip, White’s obsession nearly became a reality in Bisbee, Arizona. Describing it as a “middle-of-nowhere” gem with a Laurel Canyon, California, vibe, White was so captivated by the community of transplants and the local charm that he spent six months seriously considering buying a house.

While he didn’t pull the trigger, the obsession illustrates a growing trend among high-net-worth millennials who use real estate apps as a form of therapeutic escapism.

While White says he’s “just looking,” he owns two residences: a 1,035-square-foot loft in Brooklyn that he purchased in 2014 for $717,500 and a cottage in Los Angeles’ Studio City neighborhood that he paid $1.45 million for in 2017.

In the years since White purchased the properties, median home prices have risen. The median home price in Brooklyn is just over $1 million, and in Studio City, it’s nearly $2 million, according to Realtor.com.

White has been vocal about his hands-on approach to home improvement. In 2023, he told GQ that he was renovating his California home one room at a time, recently completing the kitchen and moving on to the bathrooms at that time.

Beyond the apps, White is a devotee of real estate reality TV, specifically Netflix’s “Owning Manhattan.” He said he admires the show’s star, Ryan Serhant, and is impressed by the business he’s built.

“I’m very impressed by that man,” White said.
