January 10, 2025 – West Bend, WI – There is a new chapter in the making for West Bend Creamery, formerly Toucan Custard, which officially sold January 6, 2025. The parcel, 600 N. Main Street, in West Bend, WI, went on the market in September 2024. The asking price was $625,000.
Neighbors will be happy to know the landmark custard stand will not be razed for more housing development but will remain a locally owned restaurant called West Bend Creamery.
Yomi Verdin of West Bend, WI, is the new owner. She said she purchased the property because it hit her right in the nostalgia. “I grew up around places like this—Dairy Joy in Amboy, Illinois, for instance. Those moments, stopping for ice cream or custard, stay with you.”
Verdin, who hails from Naperville, Illinois, and spent time in the medical sales field, never anticipated finding himself behind the counter at a custard stand. But when the opportunity to buy the Creamery presented itself, she couldn’t resist.
“I’ve been doing my due diligence and a lot of research and working on some exciting things to line up the right people that want to do things for the betterment of the community,” she said. “It’s not where you can get 12 to 15-percent return on an investment. It’s investing in where you live.”
A resident of Wisconsin for 12 years, Verdin moved to West Bend, Wi, three years ago; it was the small-town history that won her over. “You don’t see towns like this anymore. You want to see it grow, but you want to preserve the goodness,” she said.
When the Creamery was up for sale, Verdin knew this was her chance to invest in something meaningful. “I want to do right by this community. I know how much this place means to people,” she said. “This town has such a rich tradition, and I’m honored to be part of it.”
Verdin said she isn’t just looking to maintain the status quo—she wants to enhance the experience for locals and visitors alike. “We’ll keep doing business as the West Bend Creamery, but I plan to bring some fresh ideas and elevate the customer experience while honoring what Jacci Moehr, and her family built here,” Verdin said.
While eager to continue the Creamery’s legacy, Verdin’s also excited about her broader role in the West Bend community. “I want to invest in my backyard,” she said. “It’s not just about the money—it’s about being part of something meaningful. West Bend feels like home now, and I’m proud to be here.”
A timeline on opening is still in the works.
The building and business reportedly sold for $623,900. The property was listed by BOSS Realty.
On a side note: Verdin recalled a treasured memory regarding ice cream from her youth. “We had a Dairy Joy out of Amboy, Illinois. we didn’t grow up with custard, but every summer we would go camping at Yogi Bear in Amboy, and there was this ice cream shop that without fail on the way there and on the way back home to Cicero,…
