Three graduates of Norwich Free Academy have found themselves in the same building once again.

Eric Mattern’s company Mattern Construction, Inc. purchased the building at 110 Broadway in Norwich, which is now occupied by Utopia Real Estate Co. and Del Vecchio Law. Utopia’s owner Molly Bruno and Del Vecchio Law attorney Isabel Del Vecchio graduated with Mattern from Norwich Free Academy in 2004.

Del Vecchio is happy to see how far she and her classmates have come since graduating from high school.

“It’s very exciting to see us all as grown-up adults running businesses and giving back to the town we grew up in,” Del Vecchio said.

The three companies have breathed new life into a building that sat vacant for about 20 years. 110 Broadway was last home to an architectural firm called Chandler, Palmer and King.

The building was full of life on Jan. 29 when the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the three new businesses at 110 Broadway. Guests packed into the building like sardines to celebrate the new tenants. State Sen. Cathy Osten, who represents Norwich, thanked the three businesses for coming to the city.

“Thank you for doing work here in Norwich,” Osten said to the business’ principals. “It’s really impactful to have people invest their time and money into being here.”

About the businesses

Mattern Construction is a building contractor that was founded in 1987 by Eric’s father George Mattern. Some of the company’s completed projects include building a truck maintenance facility for Willimantic Waste in Sprague and restoring the Gillette Castle retaining walls and exterior walkways.

Bruno started Utopia Real Estate two years ago. The business sells residential and commercial properties. Bruno also offers consulting for those looking to level up their business or investments.

After practicing at larger firms for 15 years, Isabel Del Vecchio started Del Vecchio Law in 2025. Her practice areas include personal/workplace injuries, real estate and complex litigation.
