The Texas Veterans Land Board announced that its free real estate continuing education course will continue through 2026, offering REALTORS a chance to serve military clients better while earning required training credits.

The Texas Real Estate Commission-approved elective course provides agents with crucial knowledge about home and land loan programs specifically designed for veterans, potentially helping thousands of Texas military families navigate the homebuying process more effectively.

“This one-hour free elective course counts toward REALTORS’s required training and is taught by VLB Marketing and Outreach Staff,” the board announced. The course covers VLB’s loan programs and common issues agents should understand.

Texas Land Commissioner and VLB Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham emphasized the program’s flexibility. Participants can attend either online via Zoom or in person at various locations across the state.

The curriculum covers eligibility requirements for veterans’ home loans, property types that qualify, and available loan options. Agents also learn about the VLB’s land loan program, including minimum acreage requirements and down payment structures.

The course addresses common closing delays that can derail transactions. This practical knowledge helps agents anticipate and prevent problems that might otherwise frustrate veteran homebuyers.

The program comes as Texas continues experiencing rapid population growth, with many military families seeking homes near the state’s numerous bases. Real estate professionals who understand veterans’ unique lending options can provide valuable guidance in competitive markets.

Buckingham, who made history in 2022 as Texas’ first female Land Commissioner, has prioritized veteran services during her tenure. The continuing education initiative represents one way her office connects military families with homeownership opportunities.

REALTORS interested in the course can contact VLB’s Marketing and Outreach Staff directly through the agency website. The program accepts both individual agents and entire brokerages for group training sessions.
