Raipur: The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), which represents nearly 100% of bank employees and officers in the banking industry, staged second protest demonstration at Moti Bagh in Raipur.
Their long pending demands include adequate recruitment in banks, rising incidents of attacks & manhandling of staff in Branch Premises, implementation of a five-day banking week, stopping the outsourcing of jobs, among others
Expressing their anger and frustration, the bank employees raised slogans during the demonstration, with a significant number of women employees actively participating. The protesters warned of an All-India Bank Strike on March 24 & 25, 2025, if their demands remained unheard.
Lack Of Safety
The speakers condemned the rising instances of attacks and manhandling of bank staff in various places and within the Branch premises now and then by bank borrowers, other customers, which have created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. They urged the govt to take immediate action to ensure their safety.
Failure To Implement 5-Day Work Week
On the demand for a five-day banking week, the speakers expressed concern over the govt’s failure to implement it despite The IBA has recommended to the govt that all Saturdays be declared holidays for the banking industry.
Inadequate Recruitment
The speakers pointed out that despite strong financial health public sector banks (PSBs) are struggling under an escalating workload. PSBs currently operate with a much higher customer-to-employee ratio than private banks which impacts service quality and heightens staff stress.
