A luxury condominium proposed for downtown St. Petersburg could become the tallest tower on Florida’s Gulf Coast.
The project is backed by local office developer Feldman Equities and South Florida-based Property Markets Group as well as City Office REIT and Tower Realty Partners.
Plans submitted to the city call for a 49-story condominium and office building located at 150 Second Ave. S. Right now, that site is a six-story parking garage for the City Center office building.
If approved, the project will include 166 condo units and over 73,000 square feet of offices.
The plan also includes over 10,000 square feet of retail on the ground floor and 780 parking spaces.
The tower would rise 543 feet. That’s almost 30 feet taller than the Residences at 400 Central, the luxury condo being built downtown that’s currently on track to become the tallest on the Gulf Coast.
While other news outlets have reported that the condo would fall under the Waldorf Astoria brand, no one from the development team has confirmed that detail.
A five-star branded residence would be a first for St. Petersburg. But the concept has already taken off in Tampa, with properties like the Ritz-Carlton Residences, the Pendry and the Edition bringing in tens of millions of dollars in sales.
“We look forward to bringing a 5-star brand to St. Petersburg with this landmark luxury condominium project,” a spokesperson from the development team wrote in a statement. “This development will not only redefine the city’s skyline but also contribute significantly to its growing reputation as a world-class destination.”
